Why Calder

Why designers specify Calder

On a custom home, the homeowner usually leaves the choice of fabricator to their designer, and the designer’s name rides on the result. Calder works with interior and kitchen designers who need a residential fabricator they can rely on. We’re precise in the shop, we keep you informed at every step, and the crew your client meets at install is the crew that cut the stone.

  1. One point of contact, from spec to install.

One person knows your project and keeps you updated on where it stands.

  2. We fabricate to your exact drawings: edge profiles, dimensions, cutouts and finishes.

We work from your specification and ask about anything unusual before we cut.

  3. Laser templating, so the top fits the first time.

Our laser measurements feed straight into the five-axis bridge saw, so the finished top matches the template.

  4. Certified install, so the manufacturer warranty stays intact.

We are certified by Caesarstone and Cambria to fabricate and install their surfaces.

  5. A clean shop you're welcome to bring your client to.

Our water walls keep the air clean, so no dust hangs over the floor while you tour it.

  6. We own the outcome. One team, from concept to completion.

The crew that fabricates your countertops in our shop is the crew that installs them.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Are you certified to install Caesarstone and Cambria, and does that keep the manufacturer warranty intact?
Yes, on both. Calder is certified to fabricate and install Caesarstone and Cambria, so the manufacturer's warranty stays intact on those materials once we've completed the install. We're one of the few shops in the valley certified by both. It matters because an uncertified installer can void that warranty entirely, which leaves you and your client with no recourse if something goes wrong later. Certification is also what lets us work in the materials your clients already ask for by name.
Will I have one point of contact across all my projects?
Yes. One person who already knows your project answers every time you call. You won't be handed between coordinators or have to start over with a shared inbox each time you get in touch.
Can you fabricate to my exact drawings, edge profiles, cutouts, dimensions and finishes?
Yes. We work directly from your drawings and specifications and match the edge profile, dimensions, cutout locations and finish you've called for. If a detail in your spec is unusual, we ask about it up front so nothing is mismatched at install. Custom work is standard here. We don't treat it as an upcharge or a special request, because most of what comes through this shop is built to a designer's own drawings in the first place.
How do you handle seam placement and vein or bookmatch matching?
We plan seam placement and vein matching at the layout stage, before cutting, so the finished piece reads as continuous stone. Seam quality is decided during that planning, which is why layout is its own step for us and never an adjustment made at the saw. When a bookmatch or waterfall detail is part of the design, we lay the slabs out ahead of time and confirm the match before anything is cut.
Can my client help pick the slab, and can you host us for a shop tour?
Yes. You and your client can choose the slab for the project together, and we can host you both for a tour of our fabrication shop by appointment, where you can see how your countertops are cut and finished.
Who owns it if something's cut wrong or a slab is damaged? Do you remake it?
The same crew fabricates and installs your job, so one team is accountable for the outcome. There's no chain of subcontractors to point at each other if something goes wrong, and it's clear who owns the job before a mistake ever happens.
Which materials do you fabricate?
Caesarstone, Cambria, Dekton, quartzite, quartz, granite and solid surface. We're certified on Caesarstone and Cambria, which keeps the manufacturer warranty intact on those installs, and we have the right blades, machinery and equipment to fabricate Dekton, which most shops can't cut. Quartzite and granite cover the natural-stone side of a spec, and solid surface fills out the range for projects that call for it. We don't fabricate porcelain slab, and if your spec calls for it, we'll tell you so plainly.
Do you offer samples or sample boards for client presentations, and is there a trade program?
Ask us about samples for your client presentation and we'll tell you what we can provide for your project. We also run a trade program for designers and builders working on client projects. Ask us about trade terms, since they aren't published on this page.
